Delicious Summer Smoothies You Have To Try

With summer now upon us, some of you may be looking for creative ways to eat well while cooling down at the same time. What better way than with a smoothie

Many people find that their appetite wanes during the warmer summer months, so it only makes sense that a smoothie is the best way to keeping your energy up and getting your necessary nutrients.

Smoothies are easy to customize based on ingredients you already have, and your body’s needs.

So with that said, here are some delicious smoothies that you may want to try out. These are all well balanced and will help improve your nutrition, no matter the time of day.

Morning Booster

When you need something to kick start your day, this is the smoothie to do it. You’ll be blending in real coffee, so you not only get the energy boost the food provides, but you’ll also get a nice little kick from the caffeine as well.

Feel free to make the caffeine as strong as you like depending on how much energy you need.

  • 1 cup pre-brewed cold coffee
  • 1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • ½ banana
  • ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp powdered stevia (or sweetener of choice)
  • 1-2 ice cubes

Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse blend until desired consistency is reached.

Balanced Breakfast Smoothie

If you’re rushing out the door and don’t have time to eat breakfast, the great news is that a smoothie is the perfect meal on-the-go. This smoothie offers a nice balanced mix of protein, fiber from the berries, naturally occurring sugar (carbohydrates), as well as healthy fats to ensure you don’t get a blood glucose spike followed by a crash.

The end result? Energy that will last you until lunch.

  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 tbsp natural almond butter
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • ½ tbsp ground chia seeds

Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse blend until desired consistency is reached.

High Energy Smoothie

If it’s the middle of the day and you need a quick pick-me-up, this smoothie is great for that. It combines a nice mix of slow digesting oatmeal with the naturally occurring sugars from the berries so you not only get energy quickly, but you get long-lasting energy. You’ll also get energy-boosting fats from the coconut flakes as these are a medium chain triglyceride that acts more like a carb in the body than a fat.

  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • ¼ cup oats, ground up in blender prior to making the smoothie
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • ½ frozen banana
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened dried coconut flakes
  • 1-2 ice cubes

Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse blend until desired consistency is reached.

Low Carb Choco-Peanut Butter Smoothie

On a low carb diet? Don’t think that this means that you can’t enjoy a smoothie, you definitely can! This chocolate peanut butter combination simply can’t be beat! Rather than using frozen fruit to thicken up this smoothie, xanthan gum is utilized with ice and an extra tablespoon of nut butter.

If you love peanut butter, this one will be a big hit for sure.

  • 1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder
  • 2 tbsp natural peanut butter
  • ½ tsp xanthan gum (found in most grocery stores)
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1-2 ice cubes

Place all ingredients in blender and pulse blend until desired consistency is reached.

Pre-Workout Smoothie

If you’re about to hit the gym for a quick workout, this smoothie will help get your body prepared. It contains a nice blend of protein, carbohydrates, and just a small dose of healthy fats to ensure your energy stays up without causing you to become sluggish.

This one works well whether you’re exercising indoors or you’re going for a bike ride, enjoying the summer weather.

  • 1 cup mango pieces
  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
  • ½ frozen banana
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tsp natural almond butter

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Post Workout Smoothie

Now that your workout is over – or you’ve just finished a great summer hike, bike ride, or roller blade, it’s time to fuel up. This smoothie will help you do just that. It’s rich in protein, complex carbohydrates, potassium and simple sugars, all while having a low fat content. Just what your body needs!

  • 1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder
  • ¼ cup oats
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup skim milk

Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse blend until desired consistency is reached.

So keep these delicious smoothies in mind the next time you feel hunger strike or you just need something quick and delicious to help you get through your day.
