The Secret to a Long and Healthy Life

It’s not about miracle cures.  It’s not about fixing what’s already broken.  It’s about thought-provoking prevention and protection.

Everyone experiences some form of fear of aging at some point throughout life. However, the reality is, age doesn't define who we are, and aging most certainly doesn't have to come with disease and illness. Sure, defying genetics is not yet a scientific possibility, but it IS possible to take control and empower yourself as your body ages by making just a few changes in your lifestyle that can help you live longer.

As redundant as it may sound, this starts with making sensible choices and reducing harmful habits such as smoking, drinking too much alcohol, not exercising, and not eating enough fruits and veggies. Did you know that these behaviors could age you by as many as 12 years?

Fortunately, it's never too late to correct these and other unhealthy behaviors.

Nature's Own Growing System

Try to eat at least 3 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Not only could this reduce your risk of heart disease, but the inflammation-fighting and circulation-boosting powers of the antioxidants in fruits and veggies can also banish wrinkles. There are also thousands of herbal and plant extracts, essential oils, and other natural remedies in existence for every ailment or illness.

They have been around for years, from generation to generation – long before modern medicine was a reality in our lives. Always remember, nature is full of therapies that are much safer, often more effective, and cost much less than drugs which tend to treat and mask symptoms rather than fix the root problem you are experiencing.

Let's Get Physical

Reality check: Regular exercise may be the closest thing we have to a fountain of youth... How's that for motivation?! So you're not a gym buff... No problem. Walk your dog, join your local marathon for charity, go for a swim in the summer heat, throw a football back and forth with your kids, go skiing with your friends... Make it fun and you will not see it as a chore. Moving for at least 30 minutes a day can add up to 4 years to your life, which isn’t surprising given the positive effects working out has on your heart, mind, and metabolism.

Shade is Your Friend

Staying out of the sun can of course keep your safe from skin cancer, but it can also do wonders to maintaining your youthful appearance by preventing wrinkles, fine lines, saggy skin, and age spots. Add a sunscreen of at least SPF 30 to your daily skincare regimen... You'll thank yourself later.

Reach Out

Studies have shown that nurturing a strong network of friends and family can actually prevent age-related illness. Did you know that loneliness can cause inflammation, which can be a precursor to heart disease? It can also lead to mood disorders or mental health problems at any age, but especially in the elderly who are at a greater risk of depression. Being part of a supportive family, a religious group or simply being actively involved in your community is an essential part of health, well-being and improved quality of life.

Can Supplements Help You Live Longer?

Scientists agree that that our bodies are composed of an array of defence mechanisms for survival and sustenance surviving. These systems are threatened by free radicals, which attack the body's tissues and organs and hindering them from functioning at their optimal state.

Life Live to Its Fullest

It's the biggest cliché of all time, but it's so true. You only live once! Make the most of each day, practice gratitude, and give love freely. Most importantly... Enjoy every moment!
